Superdome construction, Eustis Engineering 2The 40-year-old Mercedes-Benz Superdome recently was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Eustis Engineering Services, L.L.C. has been involved with this landmark since its pre-construction phase.  Beginning in 1967, Eustis Engineering performed the complete subsoil investigation for the Superdome, working alongside Shilstone Testing Laboratory, Inc.

In Phase I of the project, Eustis Engineering drilled 20 soil borings to depths of 250 feet each at the site. Soil mechanics laboratory tests were performed on samples obtained from the borings and then performed engineering analyses including bearing values, pile load capacities, estimates of settlement, and earth pressure. We also made recommendations regarding subsoil conditions and their influence on the design of the structure.

For Phase II, Eustis Engineering performed 124 soil borings to depths of 200 feet and 54 auger borings. Later, we performed soil mechanics laboratory tests and engineering analyses. Engineering analyses included computations for estimated allowable single pile load capacities and settlement analyses.

For Phase III, we were consultants during job pile driving operations.

Later, in 1974, we drilled 11 additional soil borings on the playing field area to depths of 47 to 50 feet.

Over the years we have worked on nearly 15 projects at the Dome. Most recently, we performed construction materials testing services for hurricane repairs to a garage in 2013.
