On 7-9 March 2024, the University of New Orleans (UNO) hosted the ASCE Gulf Coast Student Symposium (GCSS). Thirteen of the fifteen eligible ASCE Student Chapters from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama that comprise the GCSS participated in competitions including Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, UESI Surveying, Sustainable Solutions, and Paper & Presentation, the last of which Gwen Sanders was the head judge for.

Eustis Engineering’s Gwen, James Williams, P.E., and Patrick Thurmond were judges for the GeoWall Competition which was led by the ASCE GI-LA Chapter. The UNO team secured the 1st place victory in this event, their first time participating! We commend and congratulate all the student chapters who participated in the 2024 GCSS here in New Orleans. We look forward to collaborating on other student events with the ASCE; the opportunity to work with the next generation of engineers creates excitement for the future of the industry.
